Our Choirs listed below are:
PHOENIX
This is the competitive show choir of Jasper High School that travels to several regional show choir competitions and has fun doing it. Phoenix is comprised of students from all walks of life, including athletes, band kids, theater kids, AP students, students who have jobs....all kinds of busy students! Auditions will be late April/Early May. This group rehearses during Viking block and twice a week after school. Our after school rehearsal schedule shifts throughout the school year to accommodate for fall and spring activities such as band, football, and sports that practice right after school in the spring.
CONCERT CHOIR
Every one can learn how to sing better than you currently can (or can't!) and Concert Choir is the perfect place to pickup a new skill or improve one you already have! This low-stress environment requires extremely minimal after-school commitment, a small course fee of $30, and yet all students are eligible to travel on any major trips the choral department takes. In spring of 2021, the Concert Choir has the privilege of singing God Bless America at the Talladega Superspeedway in April! To join this choir, simply request "Concert Choir" during course request time. If you are able to be in it all year - request the class twice!
JUNIOR HIGH CHOIR
Our Junior High choir is really taking off! We meet during enrichment period and have fun learning the basics of singing. The junior high choir is open to every student without a prior commitment during enrichment period, and to sign up, simply sign your name outside the choir room or with Ms. Abbott at Maddox Intermediate. This group takes a spring trip every year - normally Six Flags! In spring 2021, The Jr. High choir is traveling with the high school to perform God Bless America at Talladega! If you've never sang before, GREAT - this is the perfect place to learn!
ENSEMBLE
This will be a new edition to the choral program in the 2021-2022 school year. This small auditioned group will focus on singing more advanced music, both traditional choral music as well as pop a cappella music. Students will audition for this ensemble in late April/Early May. It is currently expected that all students selected for Ensemble enroll in both semesters of Concert Choir, and we will rehearse the last 20-30 minutes of concert choir class every day. We will come up with a name once the school year starts!
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Mr. Garrett Lindsey, a native of Smiths Station, AL, serves as the choral teacher at both Jasper Junior High and High School. Mr. Lindsey graduated with a degree in Vocal/Choral Music Education from The University of Alabama in May 2014, and began teaching in the Jasper City Schools system in August later that year. Mr. Lindsey currently lives in Jasper, AL, and serves on the worship team at Desperation Church. It is Mr. Lindsey's goal that all of his students see the potential inside themselves and work to achieve more today than they thought possible yesterday.
